Latest stage of improvements installed
Investigations and fund-raising for improvements to the hall began early in 2021 and were guided by an Energy Audit Report from BuildPass. This reviewed the building fabric and energy demands with advice about both short- and long-term strategies for reducing energy, running costs and carbon footprint.
The first phase of the works were undertaken in August 2022 with the installation of new double-glazed windows, doors, cladding and soffits as well as new external stairs for improved safety.
Consideration of the second phase of the works also commenced in 2022 with investigations into solar opportunities, EV charging points and alternative heating systems to replace the gas boiler and radiators.
An application to the SDNPA for a CIL grant of £50,000 towards the project was also successful in 2022, to supplement a reserve fund which the Parish Council had been prudently building over a number of years.
Feedback about infra-red heating systems in a number of village halls elsewhere in the country was gathered, leading to the conclusion to adopt this alternative method of heating.
Expressions of interest were sought from a range of potential contractors, leading to a shortlist of four who were all interviewed and the appointment of the successful tenderers, Executive Windows & Construction Ltd with Send-It Solar and ARC Thermal Products, in September 2024.
During January 2025 over ninety 450W solar panels, additional roof insulation, battery storage, the infra-red heating system, two EV charging points and improved lighting controls have been installed.
It is hoped that the benefits from both phases of the work will last for many years to come.
