Walking for Health

Buriton Walking for Health is part of a National Campaign which involves many thousands of walkers throughout the country. It promotes walking as a safe, healthy form of exercise which benefits people of all ages and is free to all participants.

The Buriton Group is run by fully trained Walk Leaders who ensure that everyone is catered for, no matter what their fitness levels. Everyone taking part is able to walk at their own comfortable pace and the walks can be short or longer to suit the walker's ability. Well behaved pets are welcome.

Health

The walks can improve your health in a variety of ways. They help in weight management, in the prevention of disease and are of specific benefit to older people. Walking is the closest thing to perfect exercise. A particular benefit is the social aspect of the walks in that they provide an opportunity to meet old friends and to make new ones as we chat during the walks.

Where we Walk

Our walks take us through the beautiful countryside around Buriton, which includes many ancient footpaths, the newly opened Shipwrights Way, the South Downs and the Queen Elizabeth Country Park. In the Spring we walk among the violets, primroses, cowslips, milkmaids and bluebells. Later in the Summer the wild orchids bloom on the chalk downs. As part of our regular weekly walks, which last around an hour and a half, once a month we have a walk away from Buriton, never more than half an hour's drive from the village.

When we Walk

We meet every Monday morning, except Bank Holidays, at 10.30am in the car park by the pond in Buriton. Even when we have walks away from the village, there will always be someone at the pond at that time as the away walks don't start until 11am.

After the walks in and around Buriton, we are very fortunate to have the Five Bells on our doorstep , where Fran and her team provide refreshments.

If you wish to join us, just turn up at the pond a little before 10.30am and you will be made most welcome.
