Repairs to the village pond

Some significant work will take place at and around the village pond during November - with planting and finishing touches taking place in the spring of 2013.

It seems as though repairs are needed to the village pond about every twenty years. In 1991 the pond was completely drained so that a new clay lining could be laid. And the same sort of repairs had also been carried out in 1971.

The current problems of low water levels were first reported in 2009 - but it took quite a bit of time to work out where the leak was. Sandbags were put in place in July 2010 and since then the Parish Council has been trying to find ways of getting suitable repairs done.

Fortunately, East Hampshire District Council has been able to find the funding to pay for this important project - and the Parish Council is very grateful for all their help and assistance with this matter.

Local firm Burley Aquatics has been commissioned to do the work - including repairing the leak, reinstating banks on both sides of the pond, removing layers of silt from the bed of the pond and reducing the iris banks.

It may look a bit messy for a few months but the work should ensure the long term future of the pond for some years to come.
