Ideas towards living more sustainably and saving some money
Buriton is connecting with other local groups including villages between Petersfield and Midhurst who are encouraging people to join them each month by taking a step or two towards living more sustainably, and maybe saving some money too!
This latest instalment is suggesting that we might send fewer Christmas cards this year, by sending e-cards or phoning people instead – whilst still sending physical cards to those who will really appreciate them.
Other seasonal suggestions include:
- Buying locally: buying from local shops will help support the local economy and reduce the distance that gifts travel around the country or the world
- Consider ‘pre-loved’ gifts: many charity shops will have Christmas gifts that have been donated that could be the perfect gift for someone in your life. If children have grown out of toys, games or other gifts, why not donate them to a local charity shop?
- Reduce packaging: try to buy gifts with less packaging so that people can separate cardboard from plastics when throwing things away
- Plastic-free Christmas crackers: more shops now sell these, or you could try making your own from a kit and putting useful or reusable items in them.
All the ‘Just one small thing’ ideas are intended to be good for our pockets and good for the planet, too!
