Convicts steal Davis Cup trophy

The Tennis Club's popular Davis Cup competition this year came with some extra twists.

Once again the sun shone brightly with temperatures pushing 30 degrees and many of the key ingredients of the event remained the same.

However, this year countries were replaced by the theme of Heroes and Villains with teams representing Convicts, Doctors & Nurses, Pirates and Superheroes.

It was a fantastic weekend with a record number of participants and, thanks to the Goswell family at the Old Rectory, we were able to use an extra (astro-turf) court next-door to get more matches in and finish on time.

As always, particular thanks go to Paul Evans for organising the best event in Buriton's Davis Cup history - and to 'Bar Sinclair' for providing welcome refreshments for competitors and spectators.

Team Convicts, who had been trailing in last place at the end of the first day, eventually came out on top and team captain, Ben Norman, was presented with the glittering trophy by Club Chairman, Paul Martin.

Paul thanked Paul Evans and all the helpers, for producing another highlight in the Club's calendar and for raising over £500 for Club funds.
