Buriton Village Show

Our traditional village horticultural show, including fruit, vegetables, flowers, baking, preserves, arts and crafts will be held on Saturday 11 August.  This is a week earlier than in recent years, to avoid a clash with the bigger event in the QE Country Park.

This year we are running the show a little earlier and incorporating a food and flower festival. Come from 12.30 to sample a wide variety of foods for both instant consumption and to take away.  Among the attractions will be:

There were also other popular races, competitions and stalls on the recreation ground – as well as all the wonderful displays of fruit, vegetables, flowers, baking and other crafts in the village hall.

All the regular classes will once again feature and everyone is encouraged to submit some entries. It is part of the fun to go into the village hall on Show afternoon to see how well you have done and to see who has produced the winners. Children's entries are particularly welcome for which there are no entry fees! 

To celebrate the 40^th anniversary of the first Star Wars film, there will be a fancy dress competition providing an opportunity for everyone to come dressed as their favourite Star Wars character.

Buriton's Annual Village Show has run for decades having been first introduced by Colonel Algernon Bonham Carter in the early 1930s. As well as popular classes for vegetables, fruit and flowers there were also competitions for the best cultivated vegetable garden and the most attractive flower garden, judged a few days before the show. Sports and other activities were also embraced

Today's Village Show, organised by a hard-working Committee, tries to maintain a vibrant occasion, built around those original traditions.
