Join the team improving the education of girls in West Africa
Are you nifty with a needle, talented with thread or super at sewing?
If so, then you are just the person Buriton Village to Village Group (V2V) needs.
The group is currently setting up a project to help teenage girls in the village’s sister community in Dominase, Ghana, make their own relatively cheap, simple, sustainable period products.
Many of the girls can’t afford the products which can lead them to miss one week in every four at school.
And missing up to a quarter of their secondary school life can have a major negative impact on their eventual educational attainment and achievement.
Buriton’s V2V group now wants to turbo charge the project by getting a good supply of easy-to-make sanitary pads produced in the local community here for delivery to West Africa.
And it’s looking for more people handy at sewing to join a small team producing the pads in East Hampshire.
You only need basic sewing skills - patterns, materials and guidance will be provided.
And you can produce the pads in the comfort of your own home.
So, if you fit the bill and have a few hours to spare, you can join our team by contacting info@buriton.info for more information.
There’s more about the menstruation project on this section of the community website: see here.
We look forward to hearing from you!
