The police advise everyone to ensure houses are left locked and secured and that reasonable security measures are taken. If you have CCTV please ensure that it is in operation. They have also suggested that people consider storing valuable jewellery in unusual places (eg. kitchen cupboards) and that they take photographs of property so that it can easilty be reclaimed if recovered.
