Barn owls over Buriton

Image

More and more Barn Owls can now be seen flying over the fields around Buriton - and some have been filmed nesting at Nursted Farm.

For the past two years South Downs National Park rangers have been working with local farmers and ecologists on 'Project BOB' - installing new Barn Owl Boxes and monitoring existing boxes for barn owls.

A number of residents have already noticed increasing numbers of the beautiful birds - including a number of people along Kiln Lane and around the Manor House. The birds are most often seen in the early mornings (7-7.30am) and afternoons (4-5pm). This picture, taken by Rob Connolly, shows an owl flying over the fields west of Kiln Lane in 2015.

Ed Press, who works with the Bray family at Nursted Farm, set up a camera to film Barn Owls at the farm last year. The film is now being featured by the National Park Authority: https://www.southdowns.gov.uk/national-nest-box-week/
