Many girls in rural Ghana cannot get or afford expensive period products and this can lead to them missing one week in every four of their teenage school career. This can have a major impact on their educational attainment, their confidence and self-esteem.
Money from Buriton pays for all the materials to make washable / reusable pads and to pay for the time of local seamstresses to make them.
All the feedback from the girls, from the nurses and from the teachers at the schools where we’ve been testing this idea since 2023 has been very positive in terms of effectiveness, comfort, hygiene and school attendances.
If enough money can be raised in the future, it’s hoped that the programme can be run at all the other Junior High Schools in the area – helping hundreds of girls every year.
So, that’s where money raised in January at the Barn Dance will be SO useful !
