While travelling in traffic between Buriton and Portsmouth, or northwards towards Guildford, have you ever thought that you are following one of the most important routes in British history?

The latest instalment of this community project reveals the roles played by Buriton men during the Battle of the Somme as well as describing what life was like at home in the parish in the months of July, August and September 1916.

The Parish Council owns the land to the rear of the war memorial and would like parishioners to design something to give thanks to all those who have helped the country in times of conflict, not just in the armed forces but also helping the war effort at home in various important ways.

In May 2016 the South Downs National Park became the world's newest International Dark Sky Reserve and the Parish Council is now hoping that all planning applications will help to protect the astonishing star-studded skies overhead.
