First Man

The riveting story behind the first manned mission to the moon

This film explores the triumphs and personal costs of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

The historic Apollo 11 flight saw fragile men strapping themselves into ramshackle machines and hurling themselves into the wondrous void to give us a new horizon - an intimate account told from Neil Armstrong's perspective.

Films are shown in Buriton Village Hall near Petersfield at 7.30pm (doors open at 7pm).

Glasses of wine and soft drinks are available and there is usually an interval during which ice creams can be obtained.

The King of Thieves

The incredible story of the spectacular Hatton Garden diamond heist - the biggest and most daring in history.

Humorously told by a stellar cast including Michael Caine, Ray Winstone, Jim Broadbent, Michael Gambon, Tom Courtenay, Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Cox.

Christopher Robin - starring Ewan McGregor

An excellent 'feel good' start for the New Year - and an antidote to the Christmas break!

A middle-aged Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) is now burdened by a stultifying white collar job that prevents him from spending quality time with his wife (Hayley Atwell) and daughter (Bronte Carmichael) - but Winnie the Pooh, Piglet Eeyore and Tigger venture from the Hundred Acre Wood into London to turn his life around.

Nostalgia, humour and effective computer animation: a child's storybook juxtaposed with a coming-of-age tale. Endearing and enjoyable.

The Bookshop

It is 1959 and widow Florence Green (Emily Mortimer) risks everything to open up a bookshop in the sleepy seaside town of Hardborough.

When she exposes the narrow-minded townsfolk to the best literature of the day, she gains a kindred spirit and ally in the figure of Mr Brundish (Bill Nighy), who is himself sick of the town’s stale atmosphere, but has to reckon with the hostility of other shopkeepers and of the self-appointed doyenne Mrs Gamart (Patricia Clarkson).

Based on the novel by Penelope Fitzgerald, what begins as a genteel portrait of village quirkery reveals a darker, sadder heart, and a brittle wariness of human nature, as it goes along.

Journey's End

Horror, humour and humanity in the trenches

For the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, here is an excellent new film – expertly cast and really well acted.

Set in a dugout in Aisne in 1918, this superb film is a story of a group of British officers, led by the mentally disintegrating young officer Stanhope (Sam Claflin), as they await their fate.

Refreshments are available before very show and there is an interval during which ice creams are available.

Entebbe

A truly riveting thriller

Rosamund Pike and Daniel Bruhl play pro-Palestinian German leftists involved in the hijacking, in July 1976, of an Air France flight from Tel Aviv to Paris which was forced to land in Entebbe, Uganda.

The Jewish passengers were separated and held hostage in a demand to release terrorists held in Israeli prisons.

After much debate, the Israeli government sent an elite commando unit to raid the airfield and release the hostages.
