Buriton Farms

Farm tea goes down well

Susan Shone put on a special spread for senior citizens from across the parish in July - an established part of the community's annual 'Down on our farms' programme of events, open days, walks and talks.

Susan had prepared a wonderful range of sandwiches, cakes and scones at Bolinge Hill Farm – and there were also bowls of fresh raspberries and lashings of cream.

Conversations ranged widely and the world was gradually put to rights as everyone chatted over cups of tea and coffee or strolled around the delightful gardens in beautiful weather.

Seniors' afternoon tea ? down on the farm

Pre-booking is essential: please see details below.

As part of Buriton’s “Down on our Farms” programme of events, open days, walks and talks Mrs Susan Shone is kindly hosting a special mid-summer Farm Tea at Bolinge Hill Farm on Wednesday afternoon, 10th July: 2.30 – 4pm.

Bluebell Walk and Farm Tea at Bolinge Hill Farm

An opportunity for parishioners, family and friends to take a delightful guided stroll along farm paths not normally open to the public - and opportunities (weather permitting) to see thousands of bluebells and impressive Early Purple orchids.

Farm owner Susan Shone will also provide afternoon tea back at Bolinge Hill farmhouse where visitors will be able to wander around the gardens.

This event is for parishioners and families only. Dogs are welcome on the walk – as long as they are kept on leads – but not in the garden for tea.

Bluebell walk was obviously ?meant to be?

Despite days of wet weather, Susan Shone's annual Bluebell Walk at Bolinge Hill Farm took place as planned on Sunday 29th April. And it was obviously 'meant to be'.

Amazingly the rain stopped at 1.45pm for the 2 o’clock start – and the sun even shone as the group of villagers, families and friends strolled along paths not normally open to the public.

Once back at the Farm after a delightful guided walk, everyone was treated to a scrumptious afternoon tea – and cakes galore!

Events that have shaped our landscapes

The unprecedented demand for wool and wheat during the Napoleonic Wars changed our local landscapes for ever.

This talk, part of the ‘Down on Buriton’s Farms’ programme of events, will be delivered by Roger Knight who was Deputy Director of the National Maritime Museum until 2000.

The talk will take place in St Mary's Church, Buriton, whilst it is decorated for harvest Festival.

Local beef can't be beaten

That was the view of many of the people collecting their supplies of meat from Susan Shone at Bolinge Hill Farm in January.

Mrs Shone is one of a number of farmers in the parish of Buriton who now sell their produce directly to parishioners, family and friends.

All the beef comes fresh, butchered into portions and, vacuum packed and labelled – ready for freezing.
