Award winning author's talk in Buriton takes place in black-out conditions.
A power-cut, pitching the whole of the village into darkness, couldn't stop Michelle Magorian enthralling residents and visitors with readings and insights into her best-selling novel Goodnight Mister Tom in the village hall in February.
Her special talk, to raise money for books for schoolchildren in Buriton's sister community of Dominase in rural Ghana, was a treat for adults and children alike.
She explained how the book, now published around the world in over a dozen languages, has been adapted into a BAFTA award-winning TV film (starring John Thaw) and into a successful musical and a popular stage play currently running in London's West End before embarking on a nationwide tour.
The talk was particularly inspirational for some of the younger members of the community who were encouraged to dream and to 'go with your feelings'.
Petersfield Theatre Group will be performing the musical version of Goodnight Mister Tom in June (http://www.petersfieldtheatregroup.org/ ) and members of the cast were present to get tips, insights and autographs!
Anyone who stayed at home missed a real treat - and there was absolutely nothing to watch on TV!
