New handrails on popular footpath

The Parish Council has arranged for new handrails to be fitted at both ends of the North Lane ("The Lawns") footpath.

After suggestions from Buriton’s “Walking to Health” Group that the steps leading down onto North Lane near to Pillmead House and at Pitcoft Lane could become dangerous, the Parish Council has arranged for new handrails to be fitted.

The Parish Council successfully applied for some grant funding towards the total costs so that not all expenditure fell upon local tax payers. The work has also tidied up the flights of steps, returning them to the condition that they were in many, many years ago.

Commenting after the work was completed, one of Buriton Walking to Health’s coordinators thanked the Parish Council for providing the handrails and said: “They are just right and will weather into effective but relatively innocuous rails. The work done on the steps off North Lane is also first class and not only looks good, but the whole thing is now much safer than before.”
