The English Village Pond

Buriton featured in new book

A new guidebook includes details of about thirty village ponds – including Buriton – with our jewel being selected for the front cover!

The book, written by Ian Thompson and published by Bluestone Books, explains that during the latter part of the nineteenth century and the early years of the twentieth, thousands of village ponds were destroyed – but points out that those that remain now help to attract visitors and patronage for local pubs and businesses.

The book summarises past uses of village ponds, a range of different types of pond and their benefits to wildlife.

Buriton is then featured amongst the selection of beautifully photographed examples – covering counties from Somerset to Suffolk, Yorkshire to Kent.
