Walking for Health
Buriton Walking for Health is part of a National Campaign which involves many thousands of walkers throughout the country. It promotes walking as a safe, healthy form of exercise which benefits people of all ages and is free to all participants.
The Buriton Group is run by fully trained Walk Leaders who ensure that everyone is catered for, no matter what their fitness levels. Everyone taking part is able to walk at their own comfortable pace and the walks can be short or longer to suit the walker's ability. Well behaved pets are welcome.
The walks can improve your health in a variety of ways. They help in weight management, in the prevention of disease and are of specific benefit to older people. Walking is the closest thing to perfect exercise. A particular benefit is the social aspect of the walks in that they provide an opportunity to meet old friends and to make new ones as we chat during the walks.
Where we Walk
Our walks take us through the beautiful countryside around Buriton, which includes many ancient footpaths, the newly opened Shipwrights Way, the South Downs and the Queen Elizabeth Country Park. In the Spring we walk among the violets, primroses, cowslips, milkmaids and bluebells. Later in the Summer the wild orchids bloom on the chalk downs. In addition to our regular weekly walks, we have arranged a 5 day trip to Germany in the Autumn to walk among the vineyards along the Ahr Valley, a tributary of the Rhine.
When we Walk
The Group meets every Monday morning at 10.30 am outside the Village Inn, which is located at the crossroads in the centre of the village. After the walks, which can last one to one and a half hours, or shorter if needed, we enjoy a cup of coffee and a good natter. If you would like to join us, please just turn up at the Inn a little before 10.30 and you will be made most welcome.
