Buriton’s bus service is ‘under review’

Can you help?  There are details here about how to respond to the County Council’s survey

Due to financial pressures Hampshire County Council has decided to reduce its support to bus services by over £1 million from 1st April 2019 – and to save another £1 million from its Concessionary Travel Scheme from the same date.

The County Council is currently consulting people to find out which buses they use – and how important they are to them.

The deadline to respond to the County Council’s consultation is 5th August (see details below).

To save money it is possible that the County Council could make changes to Buriton’s service 94:

  • by reducing the number of journeys per day
  • by reducing the days of the week that the service operates or
  • by replacing the bus service with alternative ‘community transport services’ which could mean reducing frequencies or days per week that current services operate.

They will base their decisions on “trip data, the cost of providing services and passenger feedback”.

At present the County Council has very little information about bus passengers or why they use buses. Parts of the consultation survey are now trying to collect this information.

The Parish Council is, therefore, keen to draw attention to the consultation so that people who may have an interest in responding are able to do so.

If you know of anybody who may be interested in this matter, please draw it to their attention.

There is an on-line questionnaire survey in which the first five pages of Part B relate to this matter. Questions are mostly multiple-choice (tick box) format with some opportunities to write words in blank spaces.

Paper copies of the questionnaire can also be obtained (in which questions 7 – 18 relate to this matter) and these can be posted back by simply writing ‘Freepost HAMPSHIRE’ on the front of the envelope and ‘Passenger Transport Group’ on the back.

This link will take you to a web-page with further information as well as the response form: https://www.hants.gov.uk/aboutthecouncil/haveyoursay/consultations/publictransportandstreetlighting

People have until 5th August to submit their comments.
