A day of activities in Buriton on Saturday 9 May to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day

2020 sees the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the government has arranged for a special Bank Holiday weekend: May 8th-10th.

A group of parishioners (with representatives from the church, the school, both pubs, the bell-ringers, the parish council and other organisations) is arranging a series of activities and events in Buriton on Saturday 9th May – and it is hoped that as many parishioners as possible will attend.

At 11am it is hoped that as many parishioners as possible will gather outside the church for a huge photograph of the entire community – as taken in the past on other similar occasions.

Other events (earlier and later in the day and evening) will aim to include activities for all ages and the tone will be carefully judged so as to commemorate and look forward …

More details will be available nearer to the day, but – in the meantime – people living in the parish of Buriton are encouraged to hold the date in their diaries …

It is also anticipated that the occasion of VJ Day, later in the year, will also be marked in an appropriate way.
